Bridal Tailoring Checklist for Gurgaon Brides

Your wedding outfits are the most important garments you will ever wear. They need to fit perfectly, feel comfortable through hours of ceremonies and photographs, and look exactly as you imagined — or better.

As a bridal tailoring boutique in Sector 9A, Gurugram, we have worked with hundreds of brides across Gurgaon. The brides who are happiest on their wedding day are the ones who planned their tailoring well in advance.

This checklist will help you do exactly that.

How Far in Advance Should You Book a Bridal Tailor in Gurgaon?

Garment TypeMinimum Lead Time
Bridal lehenga (tailoring only)4–6 weeks
Bridal lehenga (with embroidery work)6–8 weeks
Blouse tailoring2–3 weeks
Saree blouse (bridal)3–4 weeks
Reception outfit3–4 weeks
Mehendi / sangeet outfit2–3 weeks
Alterations to existing garments1–2 weeks

Our recommendation: Book your bridal tailor in Gurgaon at least 2 months before your wedding date. This gives time for trials, adjustments and any unexpected delays.

The Complete Bridal Tailoring Checklist

Pre-Wedding Functions

  • Mehendi outfit — typically a lehenga or anarkali in yellow, green or orange; confirm tailoring style and comfort for sitting on the floor
  • Haldi outfit — usually a simple cotton or georgette suit; confirm it is something you do not mind getting stained
  • Sangeet outfit — often a lehenga or heavily embroidered suit; confirm it allows free movement for dancing

Wedding Day

  • Bridal lehenga or saree — your main wedding outfit; requires the most lead time and the most fittings
  • Bridal blouse — discuss the design in detail; consider comfort for a long day
  • Dupatta — confirm hemming, border work and how it will be draped

Post-Wedding Functions

  • Reception outfit — often a gown, saree or contemporary lehenga; book separately from bridal wear
  • Vidaai outfit — if you are changing for the vidaai, plan this garment too

For the Groom's Family (If Applicable)

  • Mother-of-bride suits or saree blouses
  • Sister's outfits for functions

What to Bring to Your First Bridal Tailoring Appointment

  1. Reference images — save 5–10 photos of the style, neckline, sleeve and back design you want
  2. Your fabric — if you have already purchased the fabric, bring it along
  3. The undergarments you plan to wear — measurements are taken over your actual undergarments
  4. Your wedding shoes — or shoes of the same heel height, for accurate hem length
  5. A trusted person — a mother, sister or friend whose opinion you trust

Bridal Fitting Schedule

A well-managed bridal tailoring process involves at least two fittings:

First Fitting (Trial)

  • Garment is tailored to approximately 80% completion
  • You try it on and check: overall fit, blouse comfort, skirt length, dupatta drape
  • Adjustments are marked and noted

Second Fitting (Final Check)

  • All adjustments from the first fitting are incorporated
  • Final check before the garment is finished and pressed
  • Confirm all hooks, strings and closures are working

For complex bridal garments, a third fitting may be needed. A good ladies tailor in Gurgaon will never rush this process.

Questions to Ask Your Bridal Tailor in Gurugram

Before you confirm your booking, ask these questions:

  1. Have you done bridal work before? Ask to see photos.
  2. How many fittings are included?
  3. What is the exact delivery date?
  4. What happens if the fit is not right after delivery?
  5. Is lining included in the price?
  6. Do you charge extra for embellishments or border work?
  7. What is your policy if there is a delay?

A confident, experienced bridal tailor will answer all of these without hesitation.

Common Bridal Tailoring Mistakes to Avoid

Booking too late — Wedding season in Gurgaon (October–February) is extremely busy. Boutiques fill up fast. Book early.

Not having a trial — Even if you trust your tailor completely, always insist on a trial fitting for bridal wear.

Changing your mind after cutting — Once the fabric is cut, the silhouette cannot be changed. Finalise your design before cutting begins.

Ignoring comfort — A beautiful blouse that is too tight to breathe in is not worth wearing. Always prioritise comfort alongside aesthetics.

Not accounting for weight changes — If your wedding is several months away, leave a small allowance in the measurements for minor weight fluctuations.
