Wedding Season Tailoring Checklist for Gurgaon Brides & Families — 2026
Getting married or attending a wedding in Gurgaon this season? This complete tailoring checklist tells you exactly what to get tailored, in what order, and how far in advance — from the bride's lehenga to the family's outfits.
Why a Tailoring Checklist Matters for Indian Weddings
An Indian wedding involves multiple ceremonies — mehendi, sangeet, haldi, nikah or pheras, and reception — each with its own dress code. Add the bride's family, groom's family, and close relatives, and you are looking at 15–30 outfits that need to be planned, sourced, and tailored in a specific order. Without a checklist, things get missed, deadlines get missed, and the stress multiplies.
Mrs. Archana Singh of Dune Aura Boutique has helped hundreds of Gurgaon families plan their wedding tailoring over 20 years. This checklist is based on that experience.
The Golden Rule: Start Earlier Than You Think
The single biggest mistake families make is starting the tailoring process too late. Here is the minimum lead time you need:
- Bridal lehenga or saree blouse: 4–6 weeks minimum; 8 weeks for heavily embellished work
- Bridal reception gown or Indo-western outfit: 3–4 weeks
- Family outfits (saree blouses, suits, lehengas): 2–3 weeks
- Alterations on existing outfits: 1 week
If your wedding is in October–February (peak season), add 2 extra weeks to every timeline above — tailors are fully booked and delivery times extend.
The Complete Wedding Tailoring Checklist
For the Bride
- Bridal lehenga blouse (most time-intensive — book first)
- Bridal saree blouse (if wearing a saree for any ceremony)
- Reception gown or Indo-western outfit
- Mehendi outfit (usually a lighter lehenga or Anarkali)
- Sangeet outfit (often a coordinated colour with the groom)
- Haldi outfit (typically a yellow or pastel kurta set — can be simpler)
- Honeymoon / travel outfits (salwar kameez sets, casual kurtas)
For the Bride's Mother
- Saree blouse for the main ceremony (match to the saree — bring both)
- Saree blouse for the reception
- Salwar kameez or suit for mehendi / sangeet
For the Bride's Sisters / Close Female Relatives
- Coordinated lehenga or suit for the main ceremony
- Saree blouse if wearing a saree
- Sangeet outfit (often a theme colour)
For the Groom's Female Family Members
- Saree blouses (bring sarees for matching)
- Salwar kameez or suit sets for multiple ceremonies
What to Bring to Your Tailoring Appointment
For every outfit, bring:
- The fabric (pre-washed if possible)
- Design reference photos (Pinterest, Instagram, or magazine cutouts)
- The garment it will be worn with (e.g., bring the saree when getting the blouse tailored)
- Any existing measurements if you have them
- A list of the ceremonies and the dates — so the tailor can prioritise delivery
Ceremony-by-Ceremony Outfit Guide
Mehendi
Typically a daytime outdoor event. Choose breathable fabrics — georgette, cotton silk, or chiffon. Colours: yellow, green, orange, or pastel. A lehenga or Anarkali works well. Avoid heavy embellishments that can snag on the mehendi.
Sangeet
An evening event with dancing. Choose a lehenga or sharara with a comfortable blouse that allows movement. Avoid very heavy fabrics. Sequin or mirror work adds festivity without weight.
Haldi
A casual daytime ritual. Most brides wear a simple yellow or white kurta set that they don't mind getting turmeric on. Keep it simple and inexpensive.
Main Ceremony (Pheras / Nikah)
The most important outfit. This is where you invest in the best fabric, the most intricate blouse, and the most careful tailoring. Allow maximum lead time and at least 2 fitting sessions.
Reception
Often more glamorous than the ceremony. Many brides choose a gown, Indo-western outfit, or a heavily embellished lehenga in a different colour from the ceremony outfit.
